New Reception Starters 2021

Parent Information

Welcome

We are delighted that you and your child are joining Gorse Ride Schools this coming September.  On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.

We hope that the information on this page will answer many of the questions that you have about your child starting school with us in September and assure you that we will write to you in the coming weeks with further details about your child's induction.

Transition

Starting school is a milestone for both you and your child. It is a time to be celebrated. We are inviting parents and children to visit us at an allocated time between 2nd and 7th September. This is a perfect way for your child to meet their new teacher and teaching assistant and explore the environment. During this time there will be an opportunity to have a discussion about your child’s strengths, likes, dislikes and ask any questions you may have. The teachers will send out a communicate regarding dates and times for these visits.

The links below have some useful resources to support with transition.

Welcome Meeting

We would like to invite you to a welcome meeting via Teams on Wednesday 7th July at 7pm.

The team will talk about your child starting school and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Before and After School Clubs

We have been running our extremely popular and very successful clubs for over 10 years. Our Welcome Pack contains all the relevant information you need to know about our clubs and how to register your child.

EYFS

The Early Years is all about your child learning through play. Your child will spend part of their day in school accessing the continuous provision and following their own interests both indoors and outdoors. The areas within the classroom will be set up by adults who have taken into account your child's interests and next steps. The children will access these areas with support and guidance from teaching staff.

Click on the link below to view the parent’s guide to the EYFS. This information directly links to the document used at school when observing and planning activities to support your child. In this guide, your child’s first five years have been divided up into six age bands which overlap. This is because every child is different and children do not grow and develop at the same rate. As a general rule, Nursery children would be initially working at 22-36 and 30-50 months. In Reception, we would initially be working within age bands 30-50 months and 40-60 months. The aim is that children achieve the Early Learning Goal by the end of Reception.   Please CLICK HERE to read the 4Children Parents' Guide.

The Year of Play Booklet

This booklet gives you some fun and engaging home learning ideas to help your child learn through play. You don’t have to follow it month by month, please pick and choose activities you wish to try at home. Have fun!

Sharing your child's learning with you

At Gorse Ride Schools we use an online learning journal called Tapestry to record your children's learning in Reception.  You will be given a username and password to access your child's journal once they start with us. This will allow you to see any photos and videos that have been taken of your child at school and read any observations that the EYFS team have made of them.

You will also be invited to add to your child's journal as the year progresses.

The link below provides further information about setting up your account which you will be able to do once your child starts school.
